GODS AND MONSTERS Reviewed by bonnie banks A reminder of the movie on the life of John Belushi "WIRED". I wish that this movie wouldn't focus on the latter life of James Whale reminiscing about his past as it would focus on his whole life in order like a thorough documentary. The art stands in the way of the historical value in this movie (for this audience member anyway). James Whale made some kickass b/w movies like FRANKENSTEIN, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN and my fave OLD DARK HOUSE. He was a kook with a great back history he lugged around but this movie doesn't focus on that as much as him wanting to bugger the gardener and die. Good acting and good material but it's artiness doesn't develop anything. The movies he made stand well alone on their multi-feet. His maid was a terse bitch and that helps the movie out though.. |
