ALIEN 3 SPECIAL EDITION
Reviewed by bonnie banks

I was wanting to see the special edition (director's cut?) of Alien 3 because of the idea that there was maybe a "wood planet" incorperated? Whippet aliens with a bull host? A lot of rumors were thrown around about this movie what went in, and what didnt. There was a big bull that chestbursts a 'bambi' alien that scampers off in blue screen sort of ok wobble. It's not as well done as the original dog carnage that hints at the terror coming out of Fido's guts. The original theatrical release had the dog yapping, then twitching then barf/burst/blooming (nothing beats Carpenter's The Thing for dog bloomage). Next the Giger "Necronomicon" Alien without the pipes hanging out the back on all fours drips some wicked goo flesh before cat howling off screen. If you're getting the huge box set to see this you will also see the alluded sex scene with Ripley's doctor (next morning), the making of the kick ass sets that gave the ugly factory, old look to the movie. Also are sketches for the wood planet with ideas of the alien sweeping thru the giant wheat field there, like a shark, to eat monk flesh. Well, they kept the christian element in there, dropped the monks and make an ok movie with it. I liked the look, especially in the opening scene there are all these cranes and machines, sun shots that serve to make a kickass atmosphere that's not in the original release. There are some really, really nice shots there in the beginning. Wow. There could've been some different characters to round out the film though. The head bastards that control the prison planet are stereotypical boneheads. So what yawno. Some great menus and interviews in this special edition dvd series though I gotta say.
