CABEZA DE VACA Reviewed by bonnie banks This is about Senoir Cabeza de Vaca who gets on a raft adrift near Florida stuck with some buddies and end up caged up by natives of America when the whole Conqistador thing was going on in the 1500s. It is nuts. The Senoir gets taken by am native dwarf stump and his helper witch doctor pal. The stump has two feet, a broad head and is 3 feet tall. He is a little tube wrapped in leather and always nasty. He torments the Senoir and badgers him with yells and kicks/butts. Senior must wash and feed the dwarf while the witch doctor pal makes juju charms emotionlessly looking on unless he thinks of a new way to reduce the pride of the captured Senoir. It's just spectacular. Imagine a vivid National Geographic special done with the soundtrack/translator killed by a million native arrows and the main gopher gets incorporated as a slave to a wierd pair of sadists. Eventually they let the Senior go and send him off after he learns a little about the healing witch doctory. He meets some other slave/pals and a young guy enslaved by another tribe whose tribe rescues them all. Through many a mess they are going back to the Catholic Conquistadors and eventually back to Spain right?? There's a problem with the Senoir, he likes these natives and doesn't want to see the land overrun by slavers/christianity. The natives are just animals or garbage to the invading Spainiards. Torturous movie, a huge high recommendation. One flaw, a booster shot scar on a native, other than that a flawless genuine diamond. The last scene is almost surreal and is just a huge kick in the stomach by the iron foot of civilization. |
